Mayuran is a crime thriller in a hostel
Life in a college hostel is not always about having fun with friends. Debutant director Nandhan Subbarayan has attempted to showcase the other side through his film, Mayuran. Talking about the film’s premise, he says, “It’s a crime thriller and focuses on the events that happen inside a college hostel. A guy goes missing one night, and his friends set out to search for him. But they uncover several truths along the way…”
While Anjan Dev plays the lead, Asmitha, a student of National School of Drama, has been paired opposite him. Nandhan, who’s assisted Bala in films like Nandha and Pithamagan, adds, “Balaji Radhakrishnan, Anandsamy, Vela Ramamurthy and Amudhavanan play important roles. We’ve cast several artistes from Koothu-p-pattarai as well. The film’s set in Chidambaram, and we’ve shot in several locations, including Karaikal and Pondicherry. We’ve tried non-linear kind of narration, and I think that adds to the thrill in the script.”
The film, he tells us, has been censored. “Despite being a crime thriller, the officials gave us a clean ‘U’ certificate because they liked the way we’ve handled the subject. We are looking to release the film in May,” he signs off.
