Cop killed, five injured after car hit bike

CHENNAI: A police constable riding a bike died and five others were injured after an autorickshaw rammed the two-wheeler and overturned near CPCL in Manali on Friday night. The policeman was attached to the crime wing in Red Hills police station.

Karuppusamy was heading towards Thiruvottiyur from Manali when the autorickshaw coming from behind hit his bike. The auto driver then lost his control and hit another biker before slamming into two pedestrians. Karuppusamy suffered severe head injury. Police personnel rescued and sent him to the Government Stanley Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. The injured were identified as Prabhu and Dhanam, both are employed as casual labourers at CPCL. They were treated at a private hospital.

Autorickshaw driver Muthu and passengers Naveen and Gopinath were injured and treated at a hospital. Police registered a case against Muthu and arrested him. Further investigations are on.
