2 held for stealing mobile tower parts

Jodhpur: Police have busted a gang of thieves stealing expensive equipment from mobile towers and have arrested two persons on Saturday in Jodhpur. Both of them are temporary technicians with the companies engaged in maintenance of the mobile towers.
Police have also recovered equipment worth Rs seven lakh from their possession, which they were preparing to sell in the market.

“We have arrested two persons identified as technicians of a company, Man Singh and Bhagat Singh. Both have confessed to have committed many such thefts from different mobile towers in and around Jodhpur,” said an official from rural police of Jodhpur.

Police had received a complaint from a security officer of Indus Mobile Towers, stating that some equipment of a mobile tower in village Benan in Pipar City were stolen. During investigation, police found clues suggesting the involvement of the persons, who had access to these towers as well as knowledge of these equipment.

This led the police to the suspicion that the persons should be the employees of the company, and furthering investigation in this direction, police finally arrested Man Singh and Bhagat Singh, two temporary technicians of the company. “During the interrogation, the duo admitted having committed four more such thefts at different mobile towers in Jodhpur,” said the official.

He said that they had been involved in thefts for past few months since their association with the maintenance company and would sell these equipment in the market, mostly to the scrap dealers.

Police have started investigation into the matter and look forward to the possibilities of involvement of accomplices, as well as getting to the buyers, who purchased these stolen equipment from them.
