NH-74: HC gives a guarantee to PCS officer, two others

Nainital: Uttarakhand high court (HC) on Friday while hearing the bail applications of accused in the Rs 300 crore NH-74 land acquisition and compensation scam granted bail to suspended PCS officer Teerathpal and two others but rejected the bail application of builder Priya Sharma.
The case will be heard next on January 7, 2019 when the HC will take up the bail application of DP Singh, another PCS officer accused in the scam.

Apart from PCS officer Teerathpal, the HC has granted bail to consolidation officer Ganesh and farmer Om Prakash.

Two separate benches were hearing the bail applications on Friday. While the single bench of Justice Miami Kumar Tiwari was hearing the bail applications of Teerathpal, Ganesh and Om Prakash, single bench of Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia rejected builder Priya Sharma’s bail plea.

The HC had in October granted bail to five accused in the multi-crore scam. Those granted bail included Anil Kumar, Ram Samujh, Santram Ahalmat, Sanjay Chouhan and Amar Singh, all employees of state revenue department.

Earlier, senior IAS officers Chandresh Yadav and Pankaj Pandey were suspended by the state government for their alleged role in the scam. Fearing arrest, Pandey had also moved an application for anticipatory bail.

Twenty people, including four PCS officials, have so far been arrested by the SIT in connection with the scam.
