Antonio German leaves Gokulam
KOCHI: Englishman Antonio German parted ways with
Gokulam Kerala FC on Thursday.
According to club's official statement, the Granada international,
who was with the club since start of the season, had asked the club
to cancel his contract due to personal reasons and has left for the
UK as soon as the Gokulam agreed to his request.
"I wasn't enjoying myself and I wasn't happy with certain things. I will never speak bad about the club but as a footballer you need to enjoy where you are and you need to be happy in order to perform so I decided to make the decision to leave. Just wanted to say thank you so much to all the fans for your support over the years and the love you have shown me has been amazing. I love you all and will never forget you. Good luck to the club in the future," posted German on his Instagram profile.
Though the player started in all the six matches for Gokulam, he could score only two goals and was far from impressive. The forward was also not happy at not being able to make any impact on the field and has been pondering over his decision to leave Kerala for a few days. Moreover, German who loves to hold the ball and play, was struggling to gel with Gokulam Kerala FC head coach Bino George's tactic of a more possession-based football. Pressure was also mounting on for German to perform after striker Rajesh S started to impress with his quick runs and counter-attacks.
Despite German not adapting to his tactics, coach Bino George was very supportive of the player and was constantly asking the media and fans to give the striker more time to get used to team's style of play. "German was a good team player and his immense experience in playing European leagues have helped us to perform well this season. It was altogether a different experience working with him. We wish Antonio success in his future career," said Bino George.
Meanwhile, sources close to Gokulam Kerala FC said that the club has identified a Latin-American striker from Paraguay as a replacement for German. "Some paper works regarding the visa clearance are yet to be done. After that we will officially announce the player's signing," said the source.
