5.17L tree trees to plant in the district

Ludhiana: In a unique initiative to commemorate the 550th Parkash Purab of Guru Nanak Dev, a total of 5,17,550 tree saplings would be planted in Ludhiana district. Deputy commissioner (Ludhiana) Pradeep Kumar Aggarwal said: “A total of 5.17 lakh tree saplings would be planted in 941 gram panchayats of Ludhiana district, with 550 under each gram panchayat. We have directed officials from the forests, agriculture, and panchayat departments to find suitable places before the next monsoon season, so that this project is made successful in the district. They have also been directed to ensure pits are dug at the finalized places so that tree saplings can be planted on time, and work to plant those saplings would be carried out by MGNREGA workers.
The DC further stated that nodal officers would be appointed for this purpose at the block and village levels. These instructions were passed on Tuesday during a review meeting of Mission Tandrust Punjab. During the meeting, officials from the transport department were directed to ensure regular checking of vehicles so that pollution levels in the city are checked, and vehicles flouting the rules challaned.

Aggarwal also directed health department officials to carry out checks and record samples of eatables being sold by sweetmeat shop owners and restaurants. The DC also directed officials from the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) to challan industries that pollute our environment and initiate strict legal proceedings against them. Public Works Department (PWD) officials were directed to organize the maximum number of awareness camps about welfare schemes of the government. Additional deputy commissioner (Development) Dr Shena Aggarwal was also present in the meeting.
