Murder case Shukoor: CBI transfers cost list
KANNUR: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which probed the
murder of Muslim Youth League worker
Ariyil Abdul Shukoor in
2012, has submitted the chargesheet in Thalassery Sessions Court charging
CPM district secretary P Jayarajan and CPM MLA TV Rajesh with
conspiracy to commit the murder. According to court sources, the
charge sheet was submitted three weeks back and it has slapped 120B
IPC (read with 302 IPC) against them. They are accused number 32
and 33 respectively in the case.
In the earlier charge sheet submitted by the police, both of them were named accused under 118 IPC (Concealing design to commit offence punishable with death or imprisonment for life), which was a lighter charge, and the present charges are serious, as they have been charged with a direct role in the conspiracy. If proved guilty they will have to face punishment similar to that of murder charge, said legal courses.
It was on February 20, 2012 that Shukkoor was murdered in broad daylight, after holding him hostage, at Ariyil near Pattuvam in the district allegedly as an act of retaliation following a group of Muslim Youth League workers blocking the vehicles of CPM leaders.
Later, the special investigation team arrested Jayarajan and Rajesh, but they were later released on bail.
Incidentally, Jayarajan was named accused under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) in the murder of RSS leader Elamthottathil Manoj as well.
The present development comes amid the speculation that the party would field him in the Lok Sabha election. Sources close to the party said the defendant would move discharge petition in the case.
