Sony helps Bagan to take an exact sweet revenge
KOLKATA: A clinical strike by Sony Norde and a couple of top-notch
saves by Shilton Paul ensured a 1-0 victory for
Mohun Bagan in their I-League encounter against Neroca FC at the
Salt Lake Stadium on Saturday.
The visitors were clearly the better side for at least two thirds of the match but the visitors failed to utilize the chances. Sony made them pay for it. The Haitian struck in the 78th minute to help Bagan exact revenge for 1-2 loss in Imphal two weeks back. Bagan's second-successive win under Khalid Jamil took their tally to 21 points from 13 matches. Neroca too have the same number of points, albeit from 12 games.
The result may have been a source of joy for the Bagan faithfuls, but the team's performance - especially in first session - hardly gave them anything to cheer about. Jamil made one change to starting XI with Lalchhawnkima replacing Dalraj in central defence.
Barring an early chance in eighth minute when Yuta Kinowaki hit straight to the goalkeeper, Bagan hardly did anything noteworthy. Lack of control of the midfield and erratic passing not only saw Bagan's attacks break down prematurely but also allowed Neroca the leeway to launch their forays.
