City celebrates 156th birthday of Swami Vivekananda
MYSURU: Students from various schools and colleges and members from
various organisations celebrated the 156th birth anniversary of
Swami Vivekananda in the city on Saturday.
The members of Ramakrishna Ashrama along with hundreds of students from Ramakrishna Vidyashala, CFTRI School, Sri Vidya High School, Mahajana School and others participated in a rally at Yadavagiri where the idol of Swami Vivekananda was carried in a decorated chariot.
The procession which started near Akshavani Circle, ended at Sri Ramakrishna Vidyashala. Ashrama seers Atmananda, Yukteshananda, and others were present. Similarly, Ramakrishna Vidya Kendra in association with RKVK Composite PU College celebrated the birth anniversary with a rath yatra which was inaugurated by Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama seer Sarvajayananda Maharaj. The rath yatra began near college premises and passed through Vivekananda Circle, Kuvempunagar Complex and culminated on the college premises.
The University of Mysore celebrated National Youth Week and NSS Awards 2017-18 at Rani Bahadur Auditorium on Manasagangotri campus. Higher education minister G T Devegowda distributed the awards to Jnanadeepa First Grade College in Gangotri Layout, Government First Grade College in Hunsur taluk and Government Women College in Mandya for best NSS units. He also presented awards for three best NSS officers.
