3 for smuggling rare Kanjal wood
Uttarkashi: Police on Saturday arrested three people and recovered
146 blocks of rare and valuable Kanjal wood from them.
Police officials told TOI that the villagers who were carrying the blocks were caught at Chinyalisaur post during checking.
Vinod Thapliyal, in-charge of Dharasu police station, said, “The accused have been identified as Narendra Singh, Devraj Singh (both residents of Uttarkashi) and Nepal resident Surendra Singh. They have been booked under section 26/42 of Forest Act.”
Police have also seized the car which was being used for smuggling the woods.
Thapliyal added that the accused had btought the wood from Gangnani forest region of Bhatwari block and were planning to sell it in Saharanpur. He said, “The wood is used for making medicines, glasses and pots and each block costs around Rs 15,000 in the local market.”
