BEST strike continues, no bus leaves the depot, because only one driver makes a declaration of service

MUMBAI : The BEST bus strike continues for the third day today. Workers including drivers and conductors have assembled outside bus depots but they are not willing to go and sign the morning muster. A single driver and three conductors have reported for duty but not a single bus has left the 27 depots across Mumbai.

As per BEST muster, a total 42 bus inspectors and 17 bus starters reported for morning duty. Despite BEST management warning them of stringent action and imposing MESMA (Maharashtra Essential Services Maintenance Act) on 300 staffers and issuing showcause notices to 2,000 employees to vacate staff quarters, workers are firm on continuing with the protest till demands are met. Union has decided to go on a big morcha today to Wadala depot. Union leader Shashank Rao says women residents of BEST staff quarters across Mumbai will take out the morcha to Wadala depot at 11 am.
