Cold flood: First death reported in Rudrapur
Rudrapur: As temperature begins to plummet across Terai region,
police on Saturday found the body of a man reported to be the first
hypothermia-related death of the season in the district.
The man has been identified as Rajesh Gumber (40), a resident of Azad Nagar colony. His body was found at Darau road near Sundar Bagh area in Udham Singh Nagar district.
The commuters, who were passing by near the area, informed the local police, following which he was admitted to a nearby hospital where the doctors pronounced him brought dead.
“So far, we have learnt that he was in an inebriated state and passed out in the area. It is quite likely that he succumbed to cold weather conditions here. However, the exact cause of the death can only be ascertained after the autopsy report is out,” said superintendent of police (city) Devendra Peencha.
The minimum temperature in Terai region has been hovering around 4 degrees Celsius for the past three days.
